Samedia is an ambitious off-shoot of the Departure Lounge club. It started life as an idea for a touring festival tent, transporting late-night party people to an imaginary jungle voodoo den cum lost township shebeen. With full, immersive set design and décor, and a soundtrack spanning old and new sounds of Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America and New Orleans, the club’s previous outing (a 3 week run at The Roxy Arthouse during the 2010 Festival Fringe) was a huge success, and has inspired the team behind it to launch it as an irregular club-night. From December 2011, Samedia will pop-up at new hip Edinburgh venue The Third Door (formerly Medina) on a roughly bi-monthly basis. Plans are also afoot to take Samedia to select festivals in 2012.
